To survive in a ruined world, she must embrace the darkness…

Allison Sekemoto survives in the Fringe, the outermost circle of a walled-in city. By day, she and her crew scavenge for food. By night, any one of them could be eaten. Some days, all that drives Allie is her hatred of them—the vampires who keep humans as blood cattle. Until the night Allie herself dies and becomes one of the monsters.

Forced to flee her city, Allie must pass for human as she joins a ragged group of pilgrims seeking a legend—a place that might have a cure for the disease that killed off most of civilization and created the rabids, the bloodthirsty creatures who threaten human and vampire alike. And soon Allie will have to decide what and who is worth dying for…again.

Enter Julie Kagawa's dark and twisted world as an unforgettable journey begins.
Me Thinks:
Another Series from the master of Faeries!! HolyMortals!!! Now Julie is trying on Vampires!!! Awesome!! I have mixed feelings with the book cover though, well it does tell how Vampires Cry. You see.. its goose bumping, scary.
“You are a monster. You will always be a monster- there is no turning back from it. But what type of monster you become is entirely up to you. -Kanin”
There are so many books in Vampire Genre, So many good books so when a new Vampire Novel comes up, you think what new could it give, but Julie Kagawa... hats off, she smoothly lets out her unplumbed talent upon readers and proves that once again Vampire Genre has a wide unexplored  range.
In this Book vampires do not sparkle in sunlight, they do not roam around in their expensive vehicles and show off cute-immortality. Here they rule, they are to be feared. They Are the vicious killing machine but not the only killing machine. There is another race as well---Rabids.

Book Opens up with a boom and readers are introduced with the working system of New Covington where Vampires Rules and humans are mere cattle. Allison Sekemoto aka Allie, our no-nonsense determined strong willed heroine, is an Unregistered, one of the humans living in the Fringe, one of the humans who the vampires ‘ignore’ as long as they are out of their territory, as long as they do not catch them, but this also leads to no food or other supplies to Allie with her gand and others living as Unregistered to the Prince of New Covington.
(Are you confused what I am talking about, okay let me explain then)

The Immortal Rules tells the story of Allison Sekemoto living in a future where  long ago, most of the human population was killed by a disease called 'Red Lung' and Vampires have been the rulers, the prince of the provinces, they have developed a system where humans are their pet, humans have become their food supply willingly in exchange of food and roof but they are not always safe. But Vampires are not the only flesh eaters, there are Rabids, plenty of them are the creatures who were once humans bitten by vampires and turned into rabid beasts with absolute no control or reason, all know is bloodbath, flesh and their hunger. They are mix of both flesh-eating, zombie-like creatures. But Not all vampires create Rabids, Vampires can also create Vampires and thus Vampire family comes into picture where blood sings to blood.
Since the food supply for unregistered is scanty, they take chances thus Allie, while scavenging for food with her gangwhen came near to death choose to be a Vampire instead of dying. Kanin, once a prince, is her Sire. Her mentor, who trains her to develop her vampire skills, he is a complex character, who has a terrible mysterious past and all other vampire leaders, masters seems to be hunting for him and one of the vampire master, Prince of New Covington, Salazar catches up with him, sends his men to kill him, he takes a run with Allie.
Allison during the course runs in to Human group travelling in search of EDEN, a place where there are no vampires  run and habitat by humans and she decided to travel with them without letting them know about her true identity. There she meets Zeke, a sweet caring person, who keeps his people and their interest before him, always, and the story takes many twists and turns... Ride is always bumpy, full of hurdles.
“The closer you got to someone, the more it would destroy you when they were inevitably gone.”
The characters are very skillfully created, not just the main one but side characters as well. There are many villain but till now, main villain is Jackal, a Rider-king, who is after Zake'd dad with all his will and man power. He is another hard core vicious Vampire without any conscience. I find him rather Intriguing. The story line may sound complicated but it is written cleverly that readers won't have any problem in understanding the story.
The world binding is breathtaking. There is action, romance, bloodshed, wit and tears. The climax was pretty good. I liked that Julie isn't afraid to kill her characters. This is new series of Vampires is something I am really looking forward to.

  1. Right you are again about there being nothing new in the vampire world. My fellow blogger Janhvi loved The Immortal Rules and she's behind me to read it too and I will. Soon. :P I'm glad you liked it too! Did you notice that a similar poster (like the cover) was used for a poster of Raaz 3 I think it was, with Bipasha Basu on it. ;) Anyways, we can keep that aside... Great review!
